Man, I am so excited to see Lando and the updated McLaren have a great weekend. It looks to have us potentially in the mix with Merc and AM. Psyched to see Oscar get the new car next weekend too.

Being faster than the Merc and keeping tow on the Ferrari was great to see. Silverstone is going to be interesting. Upgrades proved they're good at high speed; how will they handle with the turns coming into Becketts?.

I noticed all weekend Norris did a lot of deep braking into wider entries. It looked like understeer but snapped in late and powered out fast.

Edit: Oh, not to forget a mention for all the McLaren fans in the crowd sporting papaya shirts and flares. Austria turning it up for McLaren once again. And congrats to that Max guy :P

Unless Alpine improves McLaren have a good chance of catching them in the constructor's.

What a flex to do the last pit for the fastest lap

That was class. Not needed at all for the DC, RBR already has the CC and Perez is banking the point, and all it takes is a grumpy lug nut to lose those few extra seconds.... "Nah, let's sweep again."

Also, hell yeah for Lando's DotD. Austria giving us awesome racing once again.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Imagine how Charles felt seeing Max come out of the pits and weaving to get heat into the tires. The dominance of RBR in all regards is impressive.

Really happy Lando got the DOTD and not Checo β€œBin it in quali and almost make up for it during the race” Perez

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Lando was probably happy to see all the Papaya supporters in the stands too lol

Completing those side-quests!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

So mad to see, if you're behind Verstappen and you see him do that, it's gotta hit you a little bit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Please don't spoil the races in the title or picture. Just make a thread like "austria gp discussion". Everyone who watched it knows the results. Otherwise I'll have to leave this community I'm afraid.

Maybe for the future use a generic title and have the results table/image attached? Something like "Austria Grand Prix 2023 Results". Just until we get spoiler tags.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If this was any other season I might agree with you. 🀣

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Lol fair this year not even really a spoiler!

Spoiling races was the one thing I hoped we would leave with Reddit. I mean, considering the current state of F1 Max winning isn't really a surprise. That doesn't make it okay. When/if Lemmy supports Spoiler tags, I hope we can enforce this rules for at least the first 24 hours after a race.

There were as many 5s penalties as in normal league race in f1 game on RedBull ring with rigorous cutting setting lol

I’m going to have to leave this community. Living in the US I watch these races on time delay. If mods are going to spoil races like this in my feed, I’m out.

Some really great racing in the midfield, really highlights to me that the track matters so much for good racing

Too many street tracks so far this year has made it feel a bit of a snoozefest

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

This track really produces exciting racing. It's nice to see it'll be on the calendar until at least 2030.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Can we not do this whole β€œX wins the race” thing please? Or at the very least use a generic title without spoilers. This shows up in the /all feed and spoils literally everyone who can’t watch the race live. (Even though we kind of know who will win these days)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wow, that was a lot closer than I expected! Leclerc only finished about three seconds behind Verstappen!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Hah. Poor Leclerc

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

AH SPOILER
...okay, maybe not really a spoiler

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Spoiler got me too, though I'm lowkey glad redbull are still winning because at round 2-3 I slapped a 19:1 bet on red bull to win every race of the season lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Poor showing from alpine after their investment news. They're sooo inconsistent.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Great weekend for Norris and glad to see Leclerc on the podium. Max was once again untouchable to the surprise of no one.

Fantastic comeback drive by Perez. Hope it gives him the confidence he’s been lacking as of late.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also second week without a horrific Ferrari strategy fuckup right? I wonder if that bodes well for them in the future.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Carlos' car didn't erupt in flames this time, so that's a sign of moving in the right direction. His defence on Perez was excellent too. A deserved podium spot for them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'm just glad it's over and I don't have to listen to Hamilton whinging about everyone else's track limits

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What happened to that last 5 second penalty for Perez? Does that take him off the podium? The gap to Sainz was less than that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

It was just a black and white flag, no? Not a penalty

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Might it be possible to put spoiler warnings in the headline? This showed up in my /all feed and I was going to watch the highlights on TV this evening

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Really fun race, Lots of action! Max with the third stop and hearting up his tires a bit before smashing the fastest lap was insanity. Strong drive from Checo β€œThe Intimidator” Perez as well! Will be exciting to see how Norris looks in this upgraded McClaren in his home Grand Prix with how rapid the car looked today
