Skull and Bones has been in development hell for such a long time that I feel Ubisoft gave up on it. There hasn't been much advertisement for it and everyone made it clear they don't want it. Besides, Sea of Thieves already beat it as the popular pirate game.

There's still a pirate shaped hole in the playstation market though.
Mmmm, good point.
I feel like I'm the only person who's been actively excited for Skull and Bones. I would love a modern AAA pirate game. Sea of Theives is pretty cheesy, and there's not much in the way of narrative exploration. But a really solid Ubisoft pirate game that isn't tied to Black Flag could be great.
I was excited for it, last I heard they were trying to turn it into an MMO style game though, and I don't trust them to not make that.
Ubisoft don't seem confident Skull and Bones will make an impact, which would explain the delays. If that's the case, why not repurpose all this work into AssCreed4 remake? It's better than releasing a flop.
Man, their own confidence in Skull & Bones just seems to dive lower and lower. Does not inspire confidence.
I just don't get it, Black flag signaled a lot of interest in the genre, and SM's Pirates is pretty much a picture guide on "how to make a good pirate game step by step"
I'll probably enjoy the remake, even if the original isn't even that old. Just weird seeing the way the genre has panned out.
