Email, the Internet, Telephone, riding my bike, local shopping in small shops, Matrix, Lemmy, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Nextcloud, Syncthing, Kde Connect

I've never heard of platform called "local shopping in small shops", but despite having weird name, it might be worth checking out

I've seen that nextcloud has federation, what do you use it for? Do people actively use that functionality?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I dont have an own server yet, nor know any other nice private servers.

I only know having shared folders among users of the same server. Federation would probably be that, controlled by permissions, for multiple servers.

Haha wanna cry a bit here. My Uni loves Microsoft BS, they actually have a License for all of use for all products, as well as chain us to stupid DRM software.

Now I asked them if they could offer OUR timetable not only as MS Exchange but plain old CalDAV, as Exchange is not supported by ANY FOSS software natively. Long story, end "use this weird app, it works trust me bro" and "no we wont support it".

Yay, public services!

I'm pretty sure BitTorrent is the protocol, and qBittorrent is a client which makes use of said protocol. The company responsible for the protocol does make their own client named BitTorrent though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

TIL, Tnx. I only knew about the client and obviously that's what I thought that person meant

I'm suprised that nobody says e-mail

That comment was created after mine

Lemmy frontends often round it to for example "4h ago", but if you really want to know, you can use API to get exact date/time. Here is the docs link for JavaScript client: https://join-lemmy.org/api/

Somehow the app swallowed the last part of my comment.
Meant to say "Can't see timestamp in my app"

yeah, I've heard of this e-mail, I keep hearing it's really easy, but idk...

[–] starman 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's to complicated for me. All those servers, providers, adresses... And I feel like only older linux users, working in IT use it. I'm not really tech-savvy, so I'll stick with Facebool Messenger for now.

most if not all of us forgot probably

Not counting the smartass answers like some of the others (which are all 100% correct lol): The Fediverse platforms I use are:

kbin
Mastoson
BookWyrm
pixelfed
Peertube

The former 2 I use primarily, the latter 3 just on occasion. I do also have a couple of Lemmy accounts on other instances but no longer use them.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never talk to me or my Mastoson ever again.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

Fuck lmao, leaving it.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Lemmy actively

Mastodon, Nextcoud, Pixelfed, Matrix I'm trying to use more and build a habit

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Only Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mastodon, Lemmy, Bookwrym.

Spending more time on Lemmy than Mastodon lately.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Same! Not to knock Mastdon, but I feel like I don’t get it in the same way I never got Twitter. Does that make sense? Somehow, microblogging doesn’t click for me.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Lemmy and Mastadon.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

lemmy, nextcloud, mastodon and I'm not active on but have an account on pixelfed, matrix and peertube

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Lemmy, Kbin, Matrix, Mastodon (rarely, but I do have an app installed for it.)

Edit: ending the parentheses.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Lemmy (ofc), Mastodon, Pixelfed, Peertube, Matrix, XMPP, Nextcloud, Mumble and Tox. Some of these are self hosted on my own machine.

Nextcloud as cloud storage (but app it's slow). I also use Lemmy because it is more like reddit than other social networks. I don't like Mastodon because it has a lot of unusual features compared to traditional social networks.

Email, lemmy, misskey, BitTorrent, soulseek

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

lemmy, nextcloud, matrix, bittorrent, firefish^[mastodon alternative], IRC, email.

I'd like to use more.
