Hey everyone, I'm a little new to being involved in the community, so I don't really know if I should do anything about this.

A fursuit maker I follow just posted a wip of a premade they plan to sell at a con.

It looks great so far, but the thing is it looks almost identical to my sona: same colors, same patterns, potentially same species (they didn't mention the species).

The only difference is they might have added white eyebrows? But that could also be the base underneath.

I assume its a coincidence, as I'm a very small?

Essentially no-name artist, but it feels really weird.

Should I say anything?

Can I ask them to make a change to it?

I don't know what is allowed here.

I don't think they posted a ref for the suit idea so I don't know what their plan for the entire premade is.

They're also a big suit maker and I do NOT want to start drama, especially if its nothing.

If I'm being stupid please feel free to call me out I guess.

First off, could you clear up some confusion for me? The question just before this one talks about another artist pretty much making your sona entirely themselves and you not knowing how to draw, but this question says you're a no name artist. I suppose you don't have to be a visual artist specifically, but the way it's worded makes it sound as if you are a visual artist here, but not in the other question you posted in the same hour.

Second off, I absolutely do not recommend approaching someone about similar looking designs unless you were absolutely sure they were deliberately copying your artwork. There are countless anthro designs by so many people, and unless you're doing something incredibly complex and specialized, it is no surprise you will find similar character designs out there. There's only so many ways you can draw a blue dog or a purple fox before characters could be mistaken for one another at a glance. I've seen sonas similar to mine before, and I am absolutely certain I will again. Hell I've seen people with fox sonas named Foxfire lmao, it just happens.

If you're unsure about a situation, you can always try to envision yourself on all sides of it. Imagine you posted some WIP artwork of your sona online, and someone you didn't recognize asked that you changed your identity in some way because your character shares similar traits to theirs (e.g. colors, some markings), or maybe even the same name. Is this something you'd want to constantly have to worry about whenever you express yourself through art? Does it feel like a positive space to share your creative work in?
