That’s the war room from Dr. Strangelove.
“Gentlemen! You can’t fight here! This is the war room!”
Fun fact: Ronald Reagan (who I guess is now only our second stupidest president) thought the War Room was actually real and was disappointed to discover it wasn't.
“Try one of these Jamaican cigars, Mr. Ambassador. They’re pretty good!”
“No, thank you. I do not support the work of capitalist stooges.”
“Oh, just commie stooges, then?”

GENTLEMEN, HOW DO WE KILL SUPERMAN?
MR. PRESIDENT, WE MUST NOT ALLOW A MINESHAFT GAP!
Why are these tables so comically large? You can't practically reach anything past the first few feet of table space anyway. Why not leave the center as open floor space for for a person to speak or present in or something idk
Well this one was to look right in the movie it's from.
It's so that the table can open up dramatically and reveal a model of the city, with the new headquarters of Evil Corp. at the center.
I'm sure some of it is influenced by the original concept of the roundtable from knights of the roundtable. They're all equal. Once you change that to offer an opening for someone to enter and present and forcing them to choose which way to face, you remove that concept and inherently some become more important via being the center of attention.
