Yeah, not just Canadians. I immigrated to the US and lived there for almost 25 years before I moved out, My kids are American citizens and one still lives there. I wanted to go back and visit but I'm brown and live in South America and don't feel like going to prison so I guess I'm not going to be going anytime soon.

It's time for travel.gc.ca to be updated to yellow for the US.

Why detain? Why not just have them turn around??

This is bullshit.

They need to meet arbitrary detention quotas they set themselves.

There's a reason private prison stocks jumped 20% immediately following the election.

This is why.

It's sad. I remember road trip vacations to the US when I was a child. Pretty sure we didn't have passports. We'd reach the border, spend a few minutes answering questions, they'd check drivers' licenses and license plates. That was it. I remember one time we reached the border and dad remembered we'd picked up some oranges along with our travel supplies, and there was a thing about not bringing citrus fruit across. He told the border guard, the guard asked us to hand over the oranges, and that was it. They never searched our stuff.

IMO one of the major reasons Americans are like they are is the lack of experience travelling to other countries. I hope that doesn't start to become a problem for Canadians, given that America is by far the most convenient and inexpensive country to visit for most of us.

I live a couple hours from Niagara Falls, and we used to go into Ontario a lot when I was a kid. This whole thing breaks my heart.

It used to be a pretty friendly experience, and now we have a twat for a president who, in a matter of months, has blown up a centuries-long relationship between us . I promise you that there are plenty of us down here who don’t want any of this, and most of us are trying to figure out how we can put a stop to all of this.
