UK here, stuck with only Channel 4 showing it with the English dub and yikes...that was just awful. There were several times where I thought "That was the best take you had?" While not as unintentionally comical as the "Uzumaki" dub it still just took me right out of the experience. The original Japanese soundtrack has some genuine VA legends including Mamoru Miyano, Megumi Hayashibara, and Koichi Yamadera...while the English dub seems to be a bunch of bored teenagers cold reading the script.

Hopefully Channel 4 will eventually add the original Japanese track, but I don't think they ever did for "Uzumaki", or maybe Crunchyroll will get it eventually. I'd rather not have to sail the seven seas.

But for now I won't be going back for episode 2.

I really liked this one. MAPPA's animation on the parkour scenes was absolutely fantastic and the whole episode was a delight to watch. Because the premise seems so heavily intertwined in political and ethical philosophy I do worry about what the show is trying to say, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now because it just looks so good. I'm really excited for this one and give the premiere a 5/5.

Also, I've heard people complain about the english dub, and I didn't really have any issues with it. The dialogue is a little cringy, but like, that's just kinda how anime goes and it gives a different vibe to read cringy dialogue vs hear it. I also felt like the flat-ish performances were done on purpose to give the show a bit of a mellow vibe (the japanese voices seemed to be fairly similar, IMO)

I like it so far. Don't know about the premises though. Even if they find the guy with the cure the next day I assume it would be hard to get the antidote/cure to everyone in the world logistically in time. And that is if they don't have to produce it first.

Yeah...I work in pharma manufacturing and there is no way, lol. However, that would have been true of the original rollout of the medicine too. So, you would have to prioritize the people that got the first doses of the drug, then work your way down.

The two biggest hurdles realistically in this scenario would be 1. finding an effective antidote and 2. having regulators clear your path for manufacturing/distribution as quick as possible. Then, it is a more solvable problem to scale up (like was done with covid vaccines). 30 days would still be tough for some kinds of treatments though. Even if you had an effective molecule to manufacture, if it was a biologic, you are looking at 6+ months to get a proper cell line established before you can scale up.

Just as an aside, as a physicist, I am pretty used to bending the rules of science to fit a narrative. However, I think this is one of the first times I have been confronted with bending the rules of drug testing/clinical trials in anime. Part of the clinical trial process is to very clearly determine how/where your drug and all of its components are either consumed or removed from the body. So, the idea that this drug was able to lie dormant for years and surprise everybody had me rolling my eyes for sure.

Animation and Visual look stunning as expected of Mappa. Story Look Promising. There was lot of parkour in this episode

I want to support this so I have to watch the AS TV broadcast.....

Oh my God the dub is awful. It's very Sentai-esque.

The first episode looks like all style with no substance. The visuals are fine but the dialogues suck and VA deliveries feel very flat. I didn't expect much because I'm not a fan of Watanabe's works, but even with that in mind it disappoints.

Why is the artwork so similar to Cowboy Bebop?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Because they're both directed by the same guy (Shinichirō Watanabe), written by the same guy (Dai Satō), and produced by the same studio (MAPPA).

Woow, I'm really excited to see it right now!!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

For real? Fuck yes, can't wait now

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The director also did cowboy bebop and samurai champloo

Ppl always forget to mention the goat space dandy

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I mentioned the ones i'd seen, but when i looked up the director to doublecheck i spent a long time reading the summary of space dandy like "should i finally watch this one...???"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

It's very silly ( that's a good thing), you should watch it

Also one of the few anime ppl that came over to my house in college enjoyed, regardless of gender, it's especially great on psychedelics.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

I thought about watching it years ago, but never got around to it. Maybe now is the time, since I could use something silly to watch

It's my favorite of his, watanabe can drop an anime space hooters and somehow make it not weird, any other anime it'd be sus, felt weirdly realistic here, all of the characters do, down to the robot. Like it makes it more immersive that this space loner works purely to spend his paycheck at a sports bar.

Shinichiro Watanabe directed both.

The AniList api had the airtime a bit early (it can be a bit weird at the start of a new season). It has since been corrected. Since it actually airs in <24 hours and this post has already generated a fair number of comments, I am not going to go through the process of removing it and having the bot repost it anew. Post times should be accurate for episode 2+.

Watched polish dub and all VA have sore throat. Translation is decent but dialogues feel a bit stiff.

Animation and soundtrack slap though.

Wait it's out?.... Anybody watched it?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Bot jumped the gun a little bit, it's coming out soon though. AniList has since corrected the airing time.
