For me, it's Mamoru Oshii's masterpiece Tenshi no Tamago (1985). Gorgeous animation and a very atmospheric story with barely any dialogue, will leave you scratching your head.

For something more modern and accessible, I loved Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san / Pompo the Cinephile (2021), a love letter to cinema (specifically Hollywood-style cinema, from a japanese perspective); another great one from recent years is The Tale of the Princess Kaguya / Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (2013), but maybe choosing a Ghibli film is cheating?

No game no life zero

Although the anime for no game no life was good, the movie feels like basically a different genre. It takes place before the anime, telling the history of how the world became the way it is.

Instead of taking things completely out of proportion like in the main story, their lives are on the line, being the weakest race, and it's them fighting to keep everyone alive.

Overall, the music was great, the story was great, and the animations were absolutely amazing.

I haven't seen too many anime movies yet! Right now my tentative favorite, with how little I've seen, is Wolf Children. It's very sweet and sentimental, and there are some beautifully set stills in it.
