Honestly I feel like this is a poor argument to convince someone to stop eating meat. Many people have dogs as pets that they bond with and consider part of their family, and grieve for when that pet dies. Less so for other animals that are widely butchered for meat. I feel like if people had pet pigs or chickens that they bonded with, they would be much more likely to not consume those kinds of meat, but they don't.

In short, there are other, more effective arguments to be had that meat-eaters wouldn't dismiss as readily.

It would be way easier to develop a market of new consumers and convince them to consume dog meat than to convince people to stop eating other animals on the basis of dogs.

But, most people will never be vegan. Among those that convert themselves, their personal relationships with animals are typically a critical reason for their conversion. Certainly, it was important to me.
