In the last few days I learned that a lot of things are not from the US

VLC has more features, MPV is neater.

I liked VLC years ago, but MPC-BE is my favorite by far.

Nice I use it since ,,~2012 . Still the same, no bloat, no BS text editor

NGL, I've always thought it was a Windows program, since it's in my work pc where I'm forced to use Microsoft ecosystem. I couldn't understand how a Microsoft app could be this lightweight, fast and useful

I love ++, so good!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

A favorite of mine for years. I wish there was an Android version.

I wish there were a Linux version!

Part of what makes notepad++ so good is the way it leverages what windows does already.

It would be an entirely different beast to port it like for like but there are options that are β€œnear”

Kate is good, and VSCodium works well but is much more than I need usually. Luckily there are lots of options!

I wish there was a macOS version! (Same for Paint.NET.)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

YES! paint.net is also excellent! GIMP is way more capable than I usually need.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

It took me years of using GIMP to understand it well enough to stop booting into Windows just to use Paint.net

I have been using Notepadqq for some time and enjoyed it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

That looks good, thank you. I'd never heard of it.

It works absolutely perfectly in Wine. There are re-implementations for Linux directly, but those won't work with the Windows plugins you can download from the internet.

Similarly, Sublime Text is Australian.

I like this textual editor

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Cool, but it sadly lacks many features of other editor. I would personally prefer other open source editors

There are plenty of plugins for the most niche tasks, languages, codepages, git/svn integration, etc. I like Compare plus for advanced diff functionality.

I'm surprised to hear complaints about a lack of features. Do people expect a program with "notepad" in the name to be a full-fledged IDE?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

What other editor are you referring to and features?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago

Hell yeah, been using it for years, it's incredible.
