Which Lemmy app is the best?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

99.9% of the time I’m just lurking on Reddit, but here I‘m actually getting interested in commenting again. Feels „safer“ than the other place.

Welcome ! Come on [email protected] you'll find that the animator is very friendly and open to chat back.

I was looking for reddit alternatives before and didn't pull through. Now that I did (first hour), I dont see why anyone wouldn't "migrate".

Ah, and I'm using "eternity". Reminds me of the old days before reddit turned facebook.

Looking for some good software recommendations, I like what I'm seeing here.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 hours ago

Switched to LibreOffice, and Betterbird for Mail. Works well so far. Using Vivaldi as a browser, that's a European project but with a modified Chrome core as far as I understand, the built-in AdBlocker works fine in combination with NoScript, even on mobile. Trying out Linux Mint so I can switch the OS when Windows 10 loses support later this year.

what Software do you want?

This is my third or fourth alt on Lemmy since joining. I love that I can stick to one account or change instances if I feel like it. It’s not too difficult to get used to! I’m getting a desktop app next.

I like that there’s an application process for each instance. That gives you a good idea of how the instance is managed and what to expect.

I love that I can get German news and interact with Germans and German language speakers. Or, in other words, I love that it’s not default centralized American.

It’s really cool seeing their instances next to everyone’s handle. There’s so much here! I feel a lot safer. I love that everyone is human.

I see @[email protected] everywhere. I have been here a day and I think I have upvoted them 15 times already. Haha

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 hours ago

Well, welcome, that's a very nice comment!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 hours ago

You seems to like every right thing! Welcome abord!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm surprised how quickly I've gotten used to it! I honestly really like the mobile app and it's gestures, as well as the customizability.

Although I don't think I'll be completely quitting reddit just yet, as some of my more niche interests don't have communities here yet.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 hours ago

That's fair, most of people still use Reddit for niche interests

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

It's kind of empty and I thought about stopping my boycott of Reddit because I think it hurts the US more to use Reddit as a place to talk because unfortunately that's where everybody is. Still couldn't get myself to do it though, but I'm struggling to find content here on Lemmy and I suspect maybe I don't know how to use it

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 hours ago

Did you have a look at this post? https://lemmy.world/post/26409821

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Same here but I also feel like the emptiness helps with my screentime. Easier to check new topics and the continue with life :D i get very stuck on reddit with endless doomscrolling.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago

same! I'm also free from Facebook scrolling (which turned into BlueSky scrolling and then vanished)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

If one thing is to be remebered from this last wave of inscription that is OP was kept busy.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 hours ago

Needed to use that momentum to make Lemmy grow

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Thx! I'm still learning the ropes here but so far so good.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 hours ago

Welcome! Don't hesitate to ask.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

It's pretty fun, it does stuff better than Reddit so I'm focusing on that. Personally I'm enjoying that you can scroll through so many parts when searching for a topic

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Welcome! I'l glad you like it.

you can scroll through so many parts

Do you mean the instances or the feeds?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks, I love it so far. Been feeling a little guilty for staying on Reddit after the API changes but felt too daunting to learn how to fediverse. Glad I finally pushed myself to do it. (Sync helped a lot too since I had it for Reddit before and was/is awesome!)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 hours ago

Welcome ! I don't know Sync but people seems to like it for Lemmy and there is lot of other choice to try for.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 17 hours ago (11 children)

I'm as confused as the next guy, but I'm hanging in there! I'm not sure if the decentralized nature means I'm missing communities because I'm looking in the wrong place, or if there's just fewer stuff around.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

I feel the same, but it helps to not just browse "subscribed" but to also check out "local" and especially "all"

You can also take a few minutes and check out the "communities" overview and join those you recognise by name or browse a few of them to decide if you want to join them.

It does not matter on which instance most of the time. Also, I am subscribed to similar communities on different instances, cause why not. Worst case scenario: I get duplicate news.

Would love to get a good replacement for r/hardware. Otherwise it‘s really nice!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

good replacement for r/hardware.

[email protected] has some promise, light on conversation, but we could fix that by going there and talking :)

[email protected] has a lot more people in it, but the ML servers are hit or miss on community.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago

Hey thanks! Are you sure the first one is working? Cant seem to find it 👀

[–] [email protected] 6 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I'm missing some of my topics. Is noone interested in dating, dating advice, self improvement, psychology and this stuff?

Or am I missing something?

People are nice here. I like that. 😊👍

Hi, thx for warm welcome, had a harder moment learning multi-server architecture of Lemmy, now I'm fine. Still did not abandoned the other portal (actively trying to get banned there by being a rebel tho).

How bout You? how's Your day? :)

Great experience, Voyager is a great app and Lemmy feels kinda like Reddit in the good old days. Still have to check Reddit threads every now and then through search results while looking for info, though. Hopefully we can get more content going, but I guess that’s up to us users :)

I still need to get used to the federated architecture but it's growing on me. I hope we can engage as much as possible so it's more attractive to be active here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Hi! I'm here to engage 👋
On which sub did you used to hang out?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

So far doing really good, also while I know it is some kind of bubble I am in now, I really enjoy not seeing posts from certain subreddits popping up in my feed anymore.

Doing good here.

Thx for these spaces, Lemmy is really enjoyable and Reddit is flushing down so fast!
