the title says it mostly. back when i was on twitter, i could make my account posts visible only to followers. people could follow me if only i approved them. its useful if you want to interact only with family or irl acquaintances on the platform.

There was just a post last night complaining that Bluesky had exactly this feature. Maybe it was only requiring a logged in account, rather than fully private. I am not a huge fan of Bluesky/madtodon/shitter, but it is the only place some of my friends are after I left meta.

just saying, im not that person reposting from another account. all i want is switch to decentralized or federated platforms and still connect with friends. i dont want my posts seen by strangers

It seems more the level of control Friendica gives you, plus you can post to your Bluesky account from there.

I was not saying you were, but rather that someone was complaining about exactly, or close, to what you want. I likely would post more there too if it was private.

Private accounts are not technically possible at the moment because the protocol Bluesky is built on requires all interactions between users to be public (including blocks).

The developers have discussed it before, but it would not happen for a while.

I like the transparency to be honest. I'm sure they might implement it at some point, but if you want privacy, why are you on a social platform to begin with?

There are plenty of people who have private accounts on traditional social media sites. You do the math. Why do you think they have the accounts? Assume some semblance of rationality.

its kind of hard you know to convince people to use this and that socials. bluesky is popular among the socials i use, so i am likely to find my friends using it as well. i dont use/like facebook, instagram, x/twitter, reddit anymore. i cannot convince all my friends to start using mastodon, pixelfed, lemmy and others. most of us has bluesky installed already
