Tuta, posteo, and mailbox.org are all German based.

Disroot.org is based in the Netherlands.

Do you have experience with any of these?

I've used the free trial of mailbox.org, and Tuta offers a free tier.

Mailbox is a more feature rich offering, as it has an online office suite and cloud storage as well, but they have an odd 2 factor authentification method that some users complain about, and if you stop paying for your account, they will eventually recycle your address (let another user register the same name). The upper tiers allow custom domains.

Posteo is more basic, just offering mail and a calendar. They uniquely will never delete your account even if you stop paying or leave it inactive, and you will always be able log into it and recieve/read emails, just not send them until you pay again. They do not allow custom domains.

Tuta's free tier doesn't let you use the search function for the contents of emails, but the paid tiers have no real downsides. Paid tiers let you use custom domains.

Disroot is entirely free, with custom domains available if you make a one time donation.

All of them have a pretty good track record.

Posteo: reliable and very cheap.

I use Kolabnow based in Switzerland. Very reliable and focused on privacy.

I’ve had a great experience with Mailfence, they’re based out of Belgium

I use mailbox.org and point it to my own domain (optional). They've been brittle the last couple of years but in the beta they actually have OTP 2FA and per-app passwords now.

Proton was highly recommended (until a couple of weeks ago!)
