Shelves that held bottles of Kentucky bourbon, Jack Daniels whiskey and Bacardi rum are sitting empty at government-run liquor stores in B.C. Sunday – where bottles of booze have been replaced with signs saying, ‘Buy Canadian Instead.’

The move follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order that imposed 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods.

Premier David Eby, in response, pledged to pull American liquor off the shelves and said provincial stores will stop purchasing it. The premiers of Ontario and Quebec have done the same.

Meet me behind the dumpster in 15 and I'll give you a pull.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well that escalated quickly

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It de-escalated in a few seconds as well

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

How dare you. My record is 3 minutes and 12 seconds!

We're talking about my car that won't start. Right...?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm gonna start the fuck out of your car

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

I didn't forget about you, what is your car wearing?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Well now this sweetens the pot. Can we get a side order of maple syrup?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd offer to pull you, but I don't know you like that

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks. Just the thought is very considerate!

Can confirm a bunch of stuff's been pulled. So far it's just a few brands though. That's Maker's on the bottom, so Kentucky bourbon as a category hasn't been pulled (yet?).

Asked them how people have reacted and they said they'd thought many would be really pissed but the reaction's been nearly universal support.

Would love to see the same from the Albertan government, but I'm sure Smith is on her knees with her mouth agape for that slimy orange load.

You're not wrong, but I could have happily lived never reading those words in that order. Pretty sure I took at least 10 points of psychic damage.

I think you should roll again.

And then add it.

A few other word choices and it might have been a power word kill instead

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Fucking Smith looks so goddamn spineless. Everyone else is standing proud while Smith "please no more? What can I do for you?"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Most other premiers aren't held bankrupt by UCP crazies who'll force a leadership review if they don't toe the fascist line.

Smith, on the other hand, owes her whole career to appeasing right-wing nutjobs.

"Ready to Zuck"

The Jack Daniels and Bacardi really aren't a loss to anyone. You are all better off without them.

Kentucky Burbon though:

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Meh, Irish Whiskey and Scotch are still available. The loss will be forgotten over a single glass.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

I can appreciate a good glass of whiskey or scotch but prefer burbon if given a choice. Cheers!

Bourbon is appellation protected - it's all from Kentucky. That's the reason Jack Daniels is "Tennessee Whiskey".

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

Contrary to popular belief, bourbon may be made anywhere within the US:

“Tennessee Whiskey” has its own standards, most notably that it should be from Tennessee:

Common misconception! There are rules when it comes to making bourbon, but location isn't one of them. Check out Koval bourbon from Illinois, and I'm sure there's plenty of good stuff coming out of Oregon and California.

Edit: It does have to be made in the US, not a specific state or county.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

I bought a freshly dumped bourbon barrel from Woodinville Whiskey in Oregon.

Is there any ill that fireball can't cure?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

I think it causes more ills than it could ever cure.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ahaha, my thoughts exactly. One of the best parts about Biden winning, for me at least, was ending my embargo of bourbon.

In summary, top brands from red states are not only being pulled from shelves, but orders by hospitality and independent vendors are on hold.

Other brands from red states are not being imported, it's while current stockpiles last.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is that US made swill back on the shelf? The Orange Turd decided to postpone the tariffs for 30 days.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Tomorrow it will be. I still won't be buying it.

It may have started in Cuba but it isn't anymore.
