I have been trying to make threads on wayfarershaven.eu, lemmy.ml, beehaw.org and lemmy.world. For weeks. Comments work but links/photos/posts do not. They obviously never actually make it to the instance... sometimes I can delete them, sometimes I can't.

Initially I was just testing on lemmy.world and assumed it had to do with their constantly going down due to bot and DDOS attacks, but it seems like this must be a kbin problem.

It's becoming pretty tiring. I don't really want to bother participating anymore if I'll never be able to post anywhere other than kbin.social.

Probably the same issue (or one related) but if I create a thread it generates an error message and does NOT federate to other kbin or lemmy servers, although it does appear on the home instance, kbin.social. However if I upvote the newly created thread it does appear on other servers. It's an annoying bug which I hope is fixed soon, although one relatively easy to work around.

Creating links works fine.

I do not have any domains blocked, so it is not the same as this reported bug (although, again, it appears to be similar or related): https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/1019

I've noticed that if I comment on my own post it federates. Even if I then immediately then delete the comment on my own post.

I only noticed that the other day though. But it does mean that posts I posted via Kbin about a week ago on lemmy.world have now federated and have had upvotes

Wow you're right. I commented on one of my invisible posts from yesterday and it was instantly available on its home instance. That's a wild fix, but I'm very glad to know about it. Thanks!

I only learned it because someone had put 'ignore this comment, I've just left it because sometimes my threads don't post properly' and it clicked with me that 2 of my recent ones had had no interaction at all in a week!

It's a weird workaround but at least it's there... Spread the word I guess lol?

It looks like the post to personalfinance doesn't show up in the threads section of your profile, but it does show up in the overview. So that's weird.

Usually when a thread or comment fails to propagate to other instances, you can edit it to force a retry. Maybe that would help here.

In general, for bug mitigation:

  • Don't block any domains, otherwise random stuff will get hidden
  • After making a post, go to the "newest" view and upvote it so that it actually gets sorted correctly in the "hot" view instead of buried
  • The error that you get when posting doesn't seem to affect anything, the post still gets made

Even posting this thread to kbin threw an error, although so far as I can tell it made it through.

Not sure about other instances, but I can see 4 links you’ve posted to [email protected]. Not sure if you’ve deleted the other attempts or if I can’t see them

The last time it worked was this one over two weeks ago, I tried a handful of link posts here over several days and none ever posted. I have been trying to post text posts in several places and they all give an error, appear to post if I look at them on kbin, but never show up if I go to the original instance.
