Considering there is a Debian 12 based version available and the latest Ubuntu-based one is 22.04, it does look like they're moving towards Debian. They don't seem to be the only one to do it, I've heard Linux Mint team is supposed to make LMDE their main distro at some point in future as well
Linux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Yup, if snap takes over, and it's easier to do so, they'll just rebase and LMDE will become the main Linux Mint.
Awesome! Thank you. I did check my Linux mint repos last night and there was only a cutefish base package. I downloaded it but couldn't get it working. There's clearly something I'm missing lol not saavy enough to know what
It's dead. There were some attempts, but without money you can't build a desktop
It looks like they reopened as there's a cutefish reborn distro that recently came out, but I'm obviously a skeptic and it seems sketchy to me. Idk I figured just the DE should be fine, but again idk
