I'm very happy to higher the percentage as opposed to the mere 45% from last year. I can't even recall which games I've played were on Windows, maybe a bit of Hunt: Showdown in the early 2024. Oh and the VR % was on Linux too :3

EDIT: Last year's result was 65% not 45. And this year's Windows playtime is at only 4% ^^

Steam didn't even show me that stat. 100% club 😎

It's so sad it doesn't show that graph if you only used one OS so I can't show off my 100% linux usage

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It really is. I'm not a big gamer, but I'd love boast 100% on Linux (though cheating a bit, since it's all steam deck)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

That's not cheating the steam deck is a linux device complete with a desktop

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I managed 96% Linux, 4% Steam Deck.

I really should use my deck more.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

I'm kind of the opposite, I had almost 2x as much on Steam Deck vs Linux:

  • ~50% Steam Deck
  • ~35% Linux
  • ~15% macOS (work computer)

I stopped using my work computer for games a few months ago, so it's probably closer to 65% Steam Deck since I now take my breaks on my Deck.

Where do you see these stats?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

https://store.steampowered.com/replay/

It doesn't show the OS chart for me either, I'm guessing deck isn't shown since for gaming I use it mostly on the train/bus.

Does Steam Replay include offline time? No, Steam Replay does not include any playtime played in offline mode or when disconnected from internet.

Weird, that link worked the first time, but now it just throws errors. It didn't show the OS chart for me either, despite playing on Pop, Arch, and Nobara. I'm guessing it just identifies Linux as a single OS, despite the distro.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Thank you for the link.

[–] nous 1 points 3 days ago

I believe it only shows them if you have played on more than one device.

Steam has a Wrapped?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

I still have 11℅ on Windows because of anti-cheat :(

~$1500 Gaming machine just sitting around getting dusty.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

As much as I love the Steam Deck, I just don't find myself playing mine much. What makes you prefer it to your (I assume) desktop?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

My chart would be even more skewed to the Deck.

The Deck is amazing with young kids around. Desktop gaming sessions are impossible until after their bedtime. Being able to pickup and play and put the console to standby in an instant and move to another room with the kids is amazing. I wouldn't get any game time if I didn't have a portability.

It really helps that I almost exclusively play Indies which the Deck is really perfect for.

Mostly I only have to keep one machine updated but besides that I can play really really long game from anywhere such as RPG’s, that I used to love but I sit at work now so staying at a desk after already sitting for hours kills me, I can move seamlessly from my desk to the living room to my bed to the toilet. Also this doesn’t show the whole story, I have a ton of emulated games that wouldn’t look any better on my pc anyway and getting all the controls set up is a royal pain so this way I only have to do it once and can dock anywhere I really do hope we are going to a one pc future, the only real benefit my computer has is the graphics and you would be surprised how much those just don’t matter, heresy I know but I genuinely don’t care anymore this coming from someone who spent 1500 On a Pc with a 3080 during Covid times, I notice the difference the frame rate can suck depending on the game you’re playing but honestly I just don’t care about that as much as as the convenience. fighting with Windows is a game all in itself one I used to love but now I am a software engineer and will stay as far away from that as possible.

Same. I have two of them. One is connected to the TV and the other connected to a monitor on my desk. Neither of them have seen much use this year, responsibilities keep getting in the way.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Am I doing it right?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Basically used windows for some multiplayer game sessions with friends and that's about it. Steam Deck for everything else.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Also got the Hardware Survey the other day and confused them with OpenSUSE instead of SteamOS on the Steam Deck.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How is it? My Steam Deck is my only non-openSUSE device (TW on desktop and laptop, Leap on NAS and VPS), but I've been too lazy to reinstall.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

I had to do some manual work. I mainly did it to get full disk encryption working. Getting that with an on screen keyboard running was a pain in the ass. I probably made a post about it, I'm too lazy to look for it now.

I also was too lazy to hook up a keyboard. But I could run the installer from the Gnome live boot because that seems to be the only one with a working on screen keyboard.

For day-to-day operation I use KDE with Steam running in the background for the keyboard, similar to the desktop mode on SteamOS. I did copy the setup for gaming mode over but I never use it.

Im all in on steam deck and linux it seems:

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Looks like me too... but I'm more concerned about how I put in way more total hours than I thought I did. 1000012155

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Damnit, every year I get some playtime on windows for bullshit reasons. This year I had to check something at work and last year I played some couch games on my wife's desktop hooked to the tv since they were heavier than what the deck could handle and her PC was close to the TV.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

67% GNU/Linux / 32% Steam deck 173 games launch on GNU/Linux / 74 games launch on Steam Deck

Seems good proportion :)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Of all the games I’ve played in the last year I’ve only got one that doesn’t run perfectly on Fedora (Deathloop). It wasn’t even hard to get them working; Steam, Heroic, and Proton.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

I need voodoo magic to play my games through linux.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Happily rocking the 100% Linux club.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

macOS is my work computer, and I used to play some games during lunch when WFH. I have since uninstalled Steam since my company added some monitoring SW.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Annoying windows still shows up on my review because I use GeForce now from a Fedora laptop

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Had to use Windows to play asseto corsa using wheel 192914
