It is forbidden to block the ball by jamming it with the feet, legs, etc., if this prevents an opponent from playing the ball (in accordance with the rules). The addition of the rule conformity is important, because it is a variant of dangerous play.

Ah, but blue and green are on separate teams, so technically within the rules. Also there's a red. Wait what sport is this

Barely know ‘er

It's easy to score if the two teams work together

What if you get someone really tall and they just bounce it on their head repeatedly while they run down the field?

Shit that is amazing.

Man, those defenders need to go to jail for assult and battery. No play on the ball, pure intent to injure.

Stay classy humanity.

If they're good enough to do that, they don't need to.

For a more values-based interpretation - players have to keep the ball 'in play' in a way that the other team can interact with, without posing a danger to the player(s) on your team.

As in this case the play is either unstoppable, or requires the other team to somehow extract the ball from between two players' chests, it's a fun theoretical loophole - but is not a fun or safe way of playing football if it became a commonplace strategy. In most cases, this would be seen as daring dangerous play - either the other team needs to kick it free, or jostle the players until they drop the ball, both of which are taking pretty significant risks of injury.

But what if the player gives several million dollars to FIFA? Then can they do it?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No it's still against the rules. Ref will just happen to not notice it, though. Which is definitely unrelated and totally coincidental.

Also somebody would definitely be offsides.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Offsides only applies if the ball is passed to you

Congrats you invented Rugby 2

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It's more like Roller Derby I think

With how little I know of football. I am sure someone is going to be offside and invalidate the entire plan.

But I like your thinking mate.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So long as they start in their own half they won't be offside

Tbh I'm not sure what rule/s this breaks, although I assume it must do

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I mean... outside of breaking the basic concept of sportsmanship, apparently there are rules about keeping the ball free?

Someone else commented the rules, and I suspect English isn't their first language, so I didn't pick up an absolute answer in my lazy browsing, but they came with receipts.

Even if completely stopping the ball from moving was not a violation:

The outside circle cannot actually prevent opponents from getting to the ball, that's obstruction. You can't set a screen in football while ignoring the ball.

So you have two players forced to move in an awkward way. The defenders are just going to push them off the ball with a shoulder to shoulder push.

A shoulder to shoulder push?!

Those two players are going to be rolling in pain for hours.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Happens all the time in football.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

You just gotta get the other team up there in front of you.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

"The enemy goal is down..."

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Ender’s Game did it

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can't do that for the same reason you can't hold the ball inside your jersey like you're pregnant with the ball

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

They send out a medical team to help you deliver the ball in this case too?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Its just not cricket.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Real talk, would that be legal?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’m so out of the loop. This shit makes no sense to me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You just broke soccer. I hope your fucking happy.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Someone did this once hundreds of years ago and the coach screams "Just knock them over! Grab them and throw them down! Tackle them!" and all at once American Football was born.

This is a bible story.

And the Lord said "play the big trumpets before the game. And wear the tight pants I told you about"
