We're waiting for better, faster switches now. Gigabit has become what 10/100 was 15 years ago: usable but showing it age. We need to start the push to 10G.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a lot of companies are just going "fuck it wifi everything" which is probably ok for many regular office settings but I can't imagine any developers, data scientists/researchers/analysts being too happy about that. Even less so if they're expected to transfer/work with vast amounts of data.

Ubiquiti just came out with a compact 2.5Gbps 5-port switch for $49 and it immediately sold out.
