Russian calculus with the US is to sow discontent and try to turn the country inwards so they have a free hand to push everyone else around. Medvedev was predicting civil war in the US in his 2023 New Years “predictions” (https://www.newsweek.com/medvedevs-wild-2023-predictions-include-elon-musk-us-president-1769667) and this line of civil war keeps being parroted in their media.
