I'd like to see an option to open a particular post as a different user. Mastodon clients have this and I find it pretty handy.

ie. Clicking the menu on a post should have "open as" which then lets you select one of your other logged in identities, and switches back to the post from that account.

I don't think this is possible

Should be. I know the URLs don't match up, but you can do a search for (what Connect shows as) "Lemmy link" from another instance.

So you would;

  1. Get the "Lemmy link" from the opened post (this is the URL of the original post)
  2. Switch to the other user
  3. Do a search/lookup for that URL
  4. Display it

I was trying this manually from Connect, but it looks like searching for a URL doesn't work through the search interface there, so I can't test it. Should work though, as those searches are OK through the web interface.

The URLs Don't match, not even the post id's are the same. This would be a big point of failure. Especially when its on different instances. The steps you made have the key issue in step 3, thats not possible.

It is possible.

Search for the "Lemmy link" URL. Works on the web interface, no reason why it won't work through the API too: (it's the same theory as doing community lookups)
