i wouldn't call him my favorite character, but at the same time i didn't have some big beef with him.
that death was so stupid and unneccesary though and that shock value they went for didn't really work, because it didn't really fit well into the story.
it was such a dumb, unnecessary death. I do admit to being a bit biased, as I had/have a bit of a crush on Conner Trineer :)

I always thought the holodeck bit was the same way of tying series together with a guest spot. Since it was chronologically earlier it was in the finale rather than the pilot.
