No, no, no. We are born to labour for the benefit of our captialistic overlords. We must not just hold the line, but move it upwards!

We're not born "to" anything. There is no prescribed or ordained meaning or purpose to life; therefore, you can make of it what you will. I prefer to help people and try to make the world a better place, but that's a choice that everyone has to make.

I work with a mutual aid group that provides a food buffet of home cooked meals each Monday; tents, tarps, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, warming/cooling supplies and harm reduction supplies, as available and needed; and a smaller daily meal that rotates between different encampments each day.

It's simple, yes?

We are born to live and in living eventually die. What we do during life makes no difference to us after we are gone, so far as we know. Therefore, in life we find reason to do. In doing, we find purpose. In purpose we find contentment. In contentment we find peace.

Thus life is just a goal to live the best we are able and find ways to be content in that life. This is why there isn't a universal answer: What contentment looks like changes from person to person.

It seems to us as we only percieve in time increments but all of time space, including ours, exists

We are all part of an utterly awesome experience called life. Every single thing you do, from the people you choose to love and hurt, to the words you speak and write, to the place your body falls at the end of it all, influences the world and the people around you.

You are not insignificant. You are fantastical. You are a peice of an unimaginably complex system that began hundreds of millions of years ago when the first cell came into existence - manifesting, like a flame from the darkness. Your life is the very beat of the heart that propels the human experience into worlds unknown, hurtling through space at unimaginable speeds, in a universe where our existence was not luck, not chance, but INEVITABLE.

Do you not look upon yourself and experience awe? Do you not look at the stars and know that the universe belongs to you, always has, and always will? Know this. You are beautiful. Know this, and go forth, and THRIVE.

A few years ago I read Tuck Everlasting with my middle school students and had them brainstorm a momento mori phrase we could write and put next to the clock by the door, as a reminder that both death was coming and that the more they wished time would go by for class to be over, the more their very lives passed them by. We did a little poll, one phrase won, and I put it up on posterboard by the clock. Only thing is, I can't remember the phrase. How I wish I could. But time wears away at us all and robs us of the little things, these little memories that make us ourselves, until we exit life as the same tabula rasa we were at birth.

no we're born to increase the amount of organisms that share our genes, and to increase the amount of genes each of those organisms share with us
