Hey, at least in Europe sliced bread was never illegal

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

I bake my own bread once a week, I can never go back now

I live in México. I fucking hate that Yankees brought their nasty comercial white bread here. We have so much more bread and tortilla options, for cheaper and much more tastier.

San Francisco Bay Area here. We agree. Fuck white bread. Sliced sourdough at the bare minimum.

Rosemary sourdough is tasty, too!

I'm french, I bake my own bread. It's not as good as the down street bakery but it's my own, there's something satisfying about knowing the process of how to bake such a cornerstone of the culinary world

What most people call "bread" is trash-food near quality. Like, even if baked on a true bakery I still prefer "normal bread" instead of "sandwich bread".

Embrace bocadillo supremacy.

I've got hungry after searching the image. :c

Where is the salted butter?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Beurre au sel de Guérande or go home! And the one with the chunky bits of salt, not smooth.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Why not both?

American breads are shit, prove me wrong

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

You're not... Wrong.

Idk some American bread isn't awful but it's nothing compared to quality bread. As an American it frustrates me that I can't get much decent bread at the local grocery and would have to hunt down a specialty bakery to find anything remotely good and would likely pay x5 the price for it.

Sliced white bread without any cheese or jam tastes like paper. Boule, even just as is, has its own good taste.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

This is a key factor in distinguishing good and bad bread. If you can eat bread alone then it's good.

How do you make sandwiches with European bread?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

I think you usually cut the bread into slices first.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

With le baguette you just slice half of it in 2 and it's done.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Slice it in half along a short side and assemble like so?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ahahahahah you made my day !

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Cut the bread with a bread knife

I'm convinced that people think the top option is what American bread is have never actually been in a supermarket

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago
