How are you preparing for Dawntrail?

We only have a week left until early access starts, what are you guys doing to prepare for it? I've grinded out the carbuncle earring from the mogtome event and plan to do the wondrous tails for that extra exp. Also, both my inventory and glamour dresser are completely full, so I'll need to make some room beforehand.. But most importantly, I still need a fitting glam :D

I've largely been capping out all my currencies. Got all my tomes capped, my scrips, and about half way on bicolour gems.

Also went through the inventory clear out! I have extra retainers but I've managed to get one of them completely empty ready for new crafting mats in DT, and all the others have been culled significantly.

I have started prepping stuff for Viper and Picto too, I've got full Cryptlurker level 80 sets for both and I have all the trade materials needed for max Manderville relics for both once they hit 90.

And glam wise, I finally got one ready a couple of days ago! This is actually the first time I've put together a glam I'm really happy with that wasn't just lifted and tweaked from Eorzea Collection, so am very much looking forward to next week!

Heck yeah! Love the choice of headpiece, and your middie is super cute! ~~We share a face lol~~

Thank you ❤️ I've played around with Fantasias a little since I finished Endwalker but I always come back to my middie. And my Gyr Abania Plait hairstyle!

I wouldn't bet on the new jobs getting Manderville relics, unfortunately. They don't typically add old relics for new jobs. Sadly no Bozja relics for Reaper or Sage, for instance.

I'd gotten to the point where I was spending causality tomes on upgrade items or crafting items, so I figured getting two sets of items for Viper and Picto was something that I'd either use, or if it doesn't happen, can go towards other jobs, eventually!

@Drusenija @Berin Your glam is really cute!! I really dread cleaning out my inventory 🫠 I plan to play picto so, i should prepare some gear as well..

Thank you ❤️ The main bit of advice I can give is that anything you can replace easily, just vendor it. List it on the market board if you think you can sell it, but otherwise just get rid of it. If it turns out you were wrong and you need it, you've already established you can easily replace it.

I was carrying so many old crafting mats for stuff that I thought I might need, and sure, there have been occasions where I've been able to take advantage of that, but the actual amount of time saved would easily be under an hour over two years. Not a significant enough saving to warrant the extra time spent on inventory management over the same period.

@Drusenija Market Board as an extended inventory is what I highly recommend to others as well, as long as one is responsible with their Gil :)

A lot of the materials are super easy to obtain, especially in smaller quantities - a 40 min venture for a decent stack if you have a matching retainer leveled.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Also true! I was more thinking the actual gathering process itself but retainer ventures are just as effective, especially if it's for something that is a timed node. You might not get the instantaneous gratification of crafting something right there and then, but it's never far away for the vast majority of materials.

Then you just hold the ones that are relevant for current gear or stuff you actively work on (for example, my FC chest is completely dedicated to all the stuff needed to craft subs).

This is the mentality I've taken as well. It is rare that prices of goods fluctuate so significantly that I am taking a huge loss by rebuying. I only stock up on a few things like monster materials that are a pain to farm on demand and (for that reason) tend to be pricier on the market boards, but Botany and Mining, I either buy back from the markets or put on a good show on my other monitor and farm in bulk when I need a lot.

My favorite way to prep for an expansion is try to get as immersed as I can ahead of it.

The first thing I always do is choose the class I'm going to play for the next expansion, with an RP reason, and then make a glam for it. I chose MCH this time, on the reasoning that, after Endwalker, the WoL finally had downtime, but they're still the chaos gremlin that carries an entire house in their backpack, so I thought they'd probably use that time to do a deep dive into something scholarly for the first time. For my character, I decided she wanted to figure out exactly how much aether she can channel at once, and what better way to do that than by blasting it out of a gun?

With my lore established, I made a couple glams to fit it, and what we'll be doing. The first is the culmination of her downtime activities, a complex outfit with a lot of magitek involved, which definitely stands out from a crowd.

The second is a more low-key glam for going to the new world for the first time, with unobtrusive elements of weird tech. The Scaevan earring is one of my favorite glam items. I love having my Bluetooth earpiece.

I also did a new housing build for my character in an Empyreum apartment, meant to look like a secret workshop in the Brume, where she did all her tinkering.

If anyone is planning to maximize EXP gains on day 1 for new jobs or whatever job you are taking through the MSQ, there's prep you can do this week and on Tuesday to start with a good leg up.

  1. Pick up Wondrous Tails this week and do all 9 objectives, but don't turn it in.
  2. On Tuesday, pick up Pixie and Arkasodara tribal quests on a current job you want EXP for. Do them but don't turn in.
  3. On Friday (early access day), log in early in the morning before reset.
  4. Pick up one or both new jobs if you want to level them.
  5. Turn in the Arkasodara/Pixie quests for EXP on a current job and pick up another set on new or current job you want to level. Complete and turn in again for more exp.
  6. Turn in your complete Wondrous Tails on new or current job for EXP, grab another one, and turn in again.
  7. After daily reset, pick up yet another set of Pixie/Arkasodara quests and complete to triple dip on tribal dailies.

In sum, on one day, you get EXP for:

  • 2 Wondrous Tails

  • 9 Pixie Quests (3 must be for a current job)

  • 9 Arkasodara Quests (3 must be for a current job)

That should get you about 2 levels with relatively low effort, and then you still have your roulettes and weekly challenges available for more EXP. Though if you want to do roulettes, pick something role-agnostic like Frontlines or make sure you have a healer/tank friend to group with, because those DPS queues are going to be LONG.

Other than that, my FC has over 2 weeks of Rank 3 EXP buffs available, and the job quests themselves should help get some good starting EXP as well.

And remember that Azeyma's earring gives you bonus EXP up to and including level 90, so feel free to swap out your level 90 earring for a level to get bonus EXP until 91.

Grinding levels on all my lowest jobs. Getting gear for Viper, Picto. Prepping for an XP-bomb to Viper. Inventory and Quest clean out. (Also why I’m leveling)

Playing other games. Only kind of a joke. It's important to pace myself so I don't burnout on the game too quick.
