Finding this community in my feed today was quite a trip guys but it's hard to stop digging deeper

Hello new Lemmy friends!
Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.
The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.
Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.
We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

Haha, welcome. Let us know if you have any questions!
I have a lot of questions, especially fashion questions, what the heck am I seeing
What, you don’t like the sparkly nude body suit? 🤪
I have a legitimate question: what is with the obsession? It's one shallow Instagram model who's full of herself and pretends to be all natural when she isn't. There are hundreds like her. I don't get it.
Well for starters, this particular Instagram model (thebirdspapaya or TBP) built her entire platform on being so-called “body positive”. She has made millions lying to people and has triggered other people’s body dysmorphia with her actions, including pre/teenage girls. TBP has been credibly accused of plagiarism and stealing from BIPOC creators. She has co-opted conditions such as Pre-menstrual Dysphoric Disorder to warrant sympathy whenever she’s feeling low due to being called out (her symptoms mysteriously disappear otherwise). Recently TBP pretended she had a breast cancer scare when it was just a routine follow up that hundreds of women go through every day. TBP frequently uses her children for content, including a preschool aged daughter and another (newly) adult daughter who has said she does not want to be featured on her page. TBP also goes to great measures to silence any criticism against her, no matter how constructive. The reason why we are here is because she shut down the aforementioned subreddit page although we didn’t break any rules. Many of us only found the subreddit in the first place because she blocked us (I personally was blocked on IG for liking a comment on a collaborator’s post that simply stated TBP looked different on her own page). TBP enlists her inner circle and brands she collaborates with in silencing people, even companies like Women’s Health Magazine and Reitman’s. It makes one wonder what she has to hide. Finally, TBP attempted to bully Janette Ewen, a lifestyle journalist into silence by serving her with a bs cease and desist letter. Janette ignored it as the filtering and plagiarism is easily proven.
While we mostly talk about TBP here (as it is her new snark page), we recognize the issue is with influencing as a whole. Many of us are members of other snark pages on Reddit where we talk about other influencers and their harmful actions. If influencing is a job (according to these women), why are they above criticism? Consider this TBP’s personal Yelp page where former “customers” can provide feedback (in case you didn’t know, thebirdspapaya is a corporation and she is the CEO). While some of the posts are petty know that most of us are working towards something greater, ideally a world where influencers are better regulated (currently there is exceedingly little keeping them in check).
Wow that's very interesting thanks. So she's like a complete psychopath.
Np! She may have been a decent person once but the money and fame clearly went to her head. Seems to happen a lot unfortunately.
I like how she thinks she looks so amazing in a too small swimsuit. She needs to get over herself. Funny too how she tagged Kaitlyn and the swimsuit company and neither of them have reposted her stories to their Instagram 😂
Okay, maybe I'm going crazy, BUT - if you look at the ground, she's standing in the exact same place the whole time. All she's doing is turning ever so slightly.......but the trees, flowers and garbage can are moving significantly????? Maybe it's the way the OP cropped the side-by-sides and I'm hyper focused on the indifferences lol
Iceland ass sure is MIA
can she not wear a bathing suit that is well fitting? The only time she ever did was that Penn pool party, it was black? I think it was there but it was such a nice fitting suit for her.
That was a plus size store. So she would never willingly shop there. She has to emphasize being in straight sizes....
I remember that. She made a story declaring she wasn't plus-sized but happened to fit in the smallest size they had. THEN went on to say how she's a straight-sized 12. She must have been called out a lot because she made another story with an annoyed, “I'm sorry if you took it that way. I guess I said it wrong.” This woman is incapable of an apology. That was the only bathing suit I've seen on her that fit and looked amazing.
Yeah and then that stupid follow up story about internalized fatphobia that wasn't in any way an apology, just excuses. It's not internalized anymore when you are outwardly expressing it. It just becomes fatphobia at that point.
You’re right. She even had to point out she was in the smallest size 🙄
Did she go to LA for a free pack of tacky press ons?
No offense to her friend or to press on nails, but I always have to laugh at SNL when she volunteers (gets asked?) to wear these fake nails lol - she never has on a flattering design or one that appears she would ever pick herself
What the name of the press on brand? I’ve been trying to find it and can’t. Ty!
They are called quickies. As much as people hate on S, I’m here to always point out awful things influencers do for the planet and their lack of helping those facing genocide, discrimination etc.
That being said, Bailey’s company does help people with uteruses have body autonomy (have donated to help people access abortion care) and the company also donates to LGBTQIA2S causes.
This was not something that people had to ask for, this was something she did from the start. Will I ever buy the products? No. Do I think Bailey is someone who actually cares? Yes. So kudos to her and her donating and making a difference in people’s lives.
So I don’t go on Instanavigation very often and I blocked SNL, but was she the one that posted the photo with her in a Roxy shirt the other day? Because if so, it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s doing a Collab with them since one of the other SI influencer people has a company that did a Roxy collab (GRLSWRL).
I thought she had lots on cellulite. Or I guess the filters just remove it and triggers peoples bd... But let's be pro-body positivity. 🙄
Does she purposefully wear things to be ill fitting? Not a good look. Yikes. 🐪 🦶 I feel a story coming on about her cherry mole trauma and her calm tit. She's so tired.
I always wonder the same thing. Her clothes fit awful. But I swear, especially when it comes to bathing suit bottoms and undies, she's doing it purposely so her fupa is showing.
Nothing she wears fits well!!
this looks so uncomfortably small!
I sometimes feel she does wear certain things on purpose. It’s like she wants a nip slip, her lady bits to hang out, or camel toe etc. it’s obvious she wants to attract a certain audience.
Always trying to appease the male gaze. It’s how she derives worth
But she had my account temp banned on Reddit for making an observation about her 🐪 🦶 . She wants people to comment so she can then bitch about being sexualized or whatever. Can't stand her.
She’s the worst.
It fits with her TikTok video and other comments saying, “made you look” as if she got one over on someone. As if that's the ultimate goal. I guess for her, it is.
I've never seen a model move like The Birds Papaya. Note the feet placement.
Lmfao. Who stands like that
Wow. Canada’s top model ! lol 💀💀💀
😂
Gotta keep those legs spread to make a thigh gap!
I wish this company would stop working with these people 🙄. I like their swimsuits and they look awesome on me but I’m starting to think twice. She probably got it for free too.
I feel this! I love their suits, I love that they are Canadian. But the influencer partnerships are killing me. The latest one with Briony 😖
I don’t know much about any of these swimsuit companies, but I do know that it is June and it is pride month and we just had Juneteenth so it might seem performative if they would’ve done this, but could they not have partnered with someone in the Black or LGBTQIA2S community as an artist? And it’s Indigenous History month too so like what the hell? Maybe these companies are becoming friends with these artists, but why would they not just feature a different artist and then maybe make it a little more diverse than a well off-white woman artist from Canada? Just thinking out loud.
This is such a good point that I hadn’t thought of. I’m going to email Londre about my disappointment that they partnered with yet another cis white (presumably straight) woman during June of all months. They absolutely should have partnered with someone from any of those communities for once.
I’m not really into swimsuit clothing that don’t cater to non-cis people, plus sized people or people requiring modest coverage. There are brands out there that offer longer suits, ones with more coverage for people needing modesty, and suits with accessible features etc. Of course, no clothing brand can do it all, (well, they can, but they choose not to because they’d rather collab with white and white presenting rich cis women). And like I said before, asking a member of the LGBTQIA2S community , or BIPOC artists to design patterns might seem performative, but pride month , Indigenous History Month and Juneteenth aren’t new. They (along with all clothing companies) should be pressured (by customers) to be reaching out now, for next year, and paying people accordingly. Seeing the suits on the same bodies and influencers all the time also doesn’t give anybody an opportunity to see what they would look like in the suits.
I wonder if it would make any difference if customers emailed them? Probably not.

What’s up with the negative votes on post? 🧐
This page ends up getting pushed out of context to people and it probably appears like bullying. I remember feeling a bit that way when I found the reddit but I decided to deep dive instead of writing it off that way, mostly because I noticed how kindly the community members spoke to each other and that it didn't seem to align with bullying. So I was intrigued. But I imagine most will just see it, decide we're unjustified assholes, downvote, and keep it moving shrugs
