The article (and publisher) is not really specific about what the "technical difficulties" are.
If it's just "we are to lazy to deliver a second build" that should not be a problem. But if they plan to introduce a heavily invasive DRM or Anti-Cheat it may actually become "impossible" to run the game on Linux.
