What happened to physical releases? Especially in 4k. It used to be there were all sorts of behind the scenes and commentary and hidden junk. Now it all feels so bare bones.

My most recent disappointment was The Crow 4k. I was hyped to get my steel book in the mail only to have to sit through 14 pages of copyright and piracy warnings, no main menu music at all just a static image and some behind the scenes stuff that was all the same stuff on loop. It was a pretty big letdown. I've had better experiences with pirated DVDs bought at swap meets

Some of these are getting released on streaming platforms. Disney is heavy on BTS footage of Marvel stuff, for example.

Nobody has physical media players anymore.

Few people have a dedicated player, but there are still plenty of video game consoles (PS3-5, XBox 360/One/S|X, Wii U?), which make great bluray/DVD players. We'll see how the next generation of consoles turns out, given how hot these companies are to cut out physical media altogether.

Sad. Fancy players are still being made it's just going extinct because everyone is focusing on arm based steaming machines and off-site cloud solutions for anything and everything.

"What happened to physical releases?"

Don't be surprised to witness something of a resurrection https://youtu.be/RwhdXeriYzY?si=kKrrAPd5Rk_0dpMZ Especially as twisting a steady profit out of streaming continues to be more elusive than clothes on Sydney Sweeney

Shout Factory and The Criterion Collection are the two best places to go to for extras on physical releases.
