!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

It seems like its just for.memes in general with no specific ...rules but at times it also seems to revolve around LGBQT+ content, also what is with the constant mention of 'rule'?

I've even posted to it before with no dire consequences but I really had no idea what I was doing, thanks!

195 was a general dump anything and everything subreddit. Went on a for a long while like 5+ years, started buy a guy and his roommate matt. Suddenly like 2018 a message appeared sticked to the top that said "social experiment completed" and the sub was locked. People moved to both 196 and 197. At the end of 195 it shifted more twords right wing bigotry type memes and screenshots. 196 added a rule to the only rule, bigotry screenshots were restricted to Saturdays which filtered out a lot of hateful content and the void of which was filled with positive more uplifting screenshots and memes. Without the fear of opening up a post and having it be the most bigoted take on something and calling it a meme the posters were able to put out their pride without the fear of hate in return.

The users who wanted to post the bigoted memes went to 197 since they were restricted to Saturdays only. Helped create a divide in 195s two posting groups and overall make 196 the place to be.

Sorry for wall of text but finally some niche lore I could contribute to.

It's from reddit, /r/195 and later /r/196 (and much later /r/19684) are subreddits where the only rule is if you visit, you have to post. That's why a lot of posts have the title "rule". It's a general shit posting meme community that's attracted leftists and trans folks, but that's more from natural evolution than any specific reason.

I think it's just shitposting.

The actual origin iirc was from some roommates that used their room number as the name of the sub where they shared memes.

Oh good it sounds like I did exactly what I was suppose to lol

what is with the constant mention of ‘rule’?

the rule is that if you open the community, then you're obligated to post something before you leave

Do the numbers themselves have any specific origin or meaning?

They are locations that you automatically block once you set up your Lemmy account. They are subs used to test that your Lemmy feed, and blocking mechanism, is working in your client.

That's what I did on most of my accounts, the place just doesn't make any sense, yet keeps filling my feed.

Uh huh. Why even lie? Just say you don't like the communities.

195 wasn't even meme oriented like 196. I remember there being a lot of screenshots as if people just pasted whatever was in their clipboard.
