I’ve got to hand it to them, they did an effective job of suppressing Lemmy – I never even heard of its existence until last night.
Technology
Talk about anything tech related!
I don't think they were "suppressing" lemmy purposely, it's just that the whole fediverse mainly consists of "tech savvy" or geeky people and can be a bit much to wrap ones mind around at first as a non-tech person.
Yeah we should make an infographic and lobby congress to include fediverse knowledge in computer classes
An infographic would actually be nice, getting younger people on it is especially a way to make something more popular, all the fediverse is missing is a stupid decentralized tiktok (i hope it never happens) and for tiktok to make stupid changes like twitter & reddit.
Decentralised social media for videos would be much harder because of the storage considerations.
streaming torrents is a thing as far as i know, so that may be an option (although rarely viewed videos would vanish if no one is dedicated to seed them).
It's already being done with PeerTube but I believe there are some issues with that platform.
^^ This (although storage is not the only issue.) If you ever used PeerTube you can tell that it's not a very good experience.
They have been deleting a ton of my comments with hundreds of upvotes warning people to verify that their votes on the AMA were not reversed like mine and many others. I only just realized now that have deleted about 75% of my posts mentioning Lemmy even in passing. I haven't received a single message stating that any of my content was removed for spam or any other reason.
At this point I am planning to edit & delete my comments for 3 decades old accounts. I will probably end up making a new account, and patching Sync for Android to keep accessing the Reddit API for free.
