From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

So I have a uconsole r01 it's basically a weak riscv machine

I want to see of there are alternatives to the stock os which is kinda bad

Any recommendations? Or is clockworkpios the only option?

Maybe put in the title that it's for RISC-V? Otherwise people will just say use Mint.

Good point. Thank you for telling me lol

There’s a Debian risc-v port

Debian and Fedora have ports, though not all packages are available, and you'll probably be doing a lot of porting if you want anything else.

But this bit from the uConsole R-01 product page might be relevant to you:

uConsole R-01 is a highly experimental model and requires some experience with Linux systems & FOSS. We strongly recommend all beginners choose other models.

Yea, I know it's not exactly a beginner device, just recieved it as a gift and want to see how I can use it

Did some digging in Fedora projects and many seem unofficial or randomly scattered around.

Your best bet is Debian, or raspbian. The OSes for it are listed on the website.

Quick question but does the image have a GUI? My main issue with my current os is the kinda lacking gui

Your model has no GPU, so it's possible that no graphical environment is supported. I suggest you sell it and get a Raspberry Pi if what you're after is a more desktop experience.

So I should just get an adapter board and a cm4?

Where do I get those

You need another computer, not the r01 to do what you want.

Oh, no way to use a cm4 in it? Can still use text adventures on it at least :D
