The search chatbot used to be opt-in, but now Google will try it on normal users.

The report says "Google told us they want to get feedback from searchers who have not opted into SGE specifically. This way they can get feedback and learn how a more general population will find this technology helpful."

Here's your feedback:

Fix the damn search, and stop making it worse by making me scroll past your garbage bot.

I really hate that I have to scroll past an entire page and a half to get to actual search results and not all the built-in Google crap.

Bing is doing this too.

It's great for finding specific recipes

The forced change is shitty for us on here since most should know how to properly use Google. But if you think about the average user that puts in complete sentences as search queries and then takes the first reddit/Quora/Blogpost answer for granted, it's probably an improvement for them. Media literacy has been lost long ago and most people already use Google as a chatbot.

You can hardly properly use Google any more even before this AI.

So many commands don’t even work now, search results have been picking related brand topics instead of what you’re searched for etc.

I feel like I'm witnessing the birth of the "AI" manipu-bot.

One less reason.

If I see this rubbish that will be the day I stop using Google Search

Do they not still block it for under 18s and non signed in users?
