How time flies! August is here! I hope you guys made some progress on your projects. And if not, that's okay! Life happens.

I progressed through the fourth planting of the Greenhouse of Oddities and working towards the fifth! I know I'm about a month behind but it's not a race and I had a lot of fun with the carnivorous plants!

I also snuck a few hundred stitches in the secret project for November (My SO's birthday). It's starting to gain shape!

I'm slowly working on magical Christmas stocking by dimensions. I switched out the Aida for evenweave. It won't be ready for this December... Maybe 2024?

As long as it's ready for A Christmas, doesn't really matter which one πŸ˜„

Here's what I've been working on for a few weeks now! This is from a few days ago so there has been more progress but I still have a ways to go. Oddly the logs at the bottom have proved to be the most difficult part so far lol

Idk if that little owl was in already there in your update last week, but I love him and would die for him, so there's that. Also ngl I can't make out what the secret project is yet but I can see that it involves some very smooth shading. Nicely done!

I've had basically no time for cross stitch this week because other crafts, you know how that goes. So my main "WIP" is actually figuring out what to take on holiday with us on Friday for a week!

3 cross stitch / blackwork works in progress

I'm thinking Ocean Wonder (by Caterpillar Cross Stitch, pictured on right) is definitely coming. This is one I got free to do a review of a while back but I stopped stitching on it because I suddenly realised how perfect that would be to do during a cruise.

Then I'll also have some sock knitting on the go (not pictured because I forgot and left it downstairs and am lazy)

But then maybe I'll also take some blackwork, the two in the pic are Steampunk World Map (CircleCross, left) and the Year of Blackwork SAL from last year (Peppermint Purple, middle). Both of those have very minimal floss requirements and require only minor brainpower, although the SAL is probably the simplest to work on while distracted so maybe that one.

Hmm, decisions decisions.

The ocean wonder looks super adorable! I usually take the simpler projects on my trips... Otherwise I spend the next week frogging πŸ˜…

That would definitely be wise. I usually take way too many, hardly touch them, then swear to learn for next time (but never do).

I may be imagining more "lounging around relaxing" time than you actually get on a cruise. Never been on one before so I have no idea what to expect!

Oh my gosh that circle cross site has so many blackwork tarot card patterns!!! I'm going to have to get those once I get a little better with blackwork!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So many of their patterns are on my wishlist it's actually ridiculous πŸ˜…

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I had to stop once I realized I'd put about 20 patterns in my cart...

I suppose I'll narrow it down to one or two to start with lol

Haha, sorry not even sorry πŸ˜‚

@IoSapsai oooh I don’t know how to post a toot under this thread 😭!! I’ll submit the picture here again, here’s my Final Fantasy sampler project!! I’m testing this design to check the colors and overall feel before publishing it πŸ’«

Looks like your image didn't get pulled in but here it is for folks viewing this through Lemmy

I've been having some problems posting images between the two as well, will go make a bug report on Github!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@thegiddystitcher oh crap I’m sorry about the issue! I didn’t realize the group was not on mastodon, should I make a Lemmy account to interact with the group?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean we'd definitely welcome you over here too! But in theory it shouldn't be necessary since we can cross-post like this, there's just a few wrinkles need ironing out of the process πŸ˜„

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@thegiddystitcher gotcha!! I’m going to stay on this account then 😭 I had already a lot of trouble to set it up on my phone lmao, I’m not the best with social media apps

Fyi then just to save you doing it by accident, if you toot on Mastodon and you tag @lemmy_stitch it'll create a new post on our side too, using the first line of your toot as the title. You can do the same with any Lemmy community if you find the equivalent group to tag.

Example: See my toot here https://artisan.chat/@thegiddystitcher/110792247417772698 that also turned into this Lemmy thread here https://lemm.ee/post/2230410.

If you tag the group in a reply it doesn't do it, just in top-level toots. And the first image from your toot will show up on Lemmy too, just not any extra images or (as we've just seen and will hopefully be fixed at some point) images in further replies. It's far from seamless but still pretty cool that we can do this at all!

@thegiddystitcher Oooh that’s so neat!! The Lemmy thread looks like a subreddit, it’s so pretty and easy to read 😭 I thought I was tagging a group on another instance like tagging a curator from an art Fediverse instance but I hadn’t realized the layout was not the same. Thank you v much for the insight 🧑
