I know, right? If one can't tell whether people are using Cunningham's Law to drive engagement or are actually ignorant, it makes one not as eager to correct honest mistakes.

Yeah, that was honestly my first thought, but I engaged regardless. I try to comment on a few threads every day, assuming I can think of something to say, just to help build the community here on Lemmy.
