This is how I use a #TrolleyNeedle as a #LayingTool while #Railroading in #CrossStitch . I apologize I couldn't do a longer video than about two stitches--it told me my video was too large to upload otherwise.

@Fermion Yes. A #TrolleyNeedle is a type of #LayingTool, though the manufacturer says it can be used for other purposes too. In #CrossStitch, a laying tool is used to make sure stitches lay flat. I use mine to help me catch knots starting to form as I'm #Railroading stitches so the don't get unmanageable. I also feel that they look much nicer combining the Railroading with the use of the trolley needle.
