Has it been considered to have an option to use volume buttons to navigate top level comments in a thread and for posts on the frontpage? It's a feature I always used in the 3rd party Reddit apps that had that option.

Yes! This was one of my favourite features about Infinity for Reddit.

Basically you could use the volume buttons to navigate between top comments.
