Nuking the majority of your amateur content for some fringe content that barely anyone even ever sees is not particularly rationale. Especially when your moderation steps afterwards end up with the same issue. Just look how many verified accounts upload random ass videos that clearly aren't them. So they're back where they were, just with barely any of the content they had.
~~They had what, like 150 CSAM reports in two years? I would say more than barely anyone ever saw it. They have a search bot thing protecting their search function now from what I understand. Not allowing people to search for the infringing material.~~
~~BUT, my point was, were they not forced to do that when it happened. Like, had no choice kinda thing.~~
Yeah, reading the wiki it seems they had not much of a choice since Visa and Mastercard no longer supported them. So they had to do something. Which is what prompted them to strip they site's content. Because of mostly people still uploading GirlsDoPorn shit and other pirated and CSAM crap.
Seems this was all started by a New York Times article that pointed out a lot of terrible content they were hosting.
Seems they also received a lot of death threats around this time from some right-wing, Christian groups. They were going through tons of litigation as well. So a lot of bullshit all at once they had to deal with.
I don't assume to know what it's like working at/managing a company during that kind of turmoil. You're bound to make bad decisions.
People quite literally still upload pirated porn. That's my point. It literally did not address any of the actual issues. It just got rid of pretty much all of their amateur content.
And as for the search function, it's not some bot. They simply banned certain terms, even if they're technically not even illegal. They did the same back then when all the fauxcest had to become step-family content. Funnily enough, most of those banned terms have a male bias. Swap the gender and it shows results just fine.
Ah, ok. Yeah, I had gotten that info from an old news article that I saw back when all that happened. Wasn't sure what they did to the search function. I don't use their site so I've never actually seen what it does.
