Not my own idea, but one of the writing prompts from the "other site" that I immensely enjoyed. ;)

How lovely! So selkies are seal creatures that can assume human form by removing their skin. I had read about them in Holly Black books but forgot what they were.

Thanks! ^^ Selkies are one of my favorite mystical creatures, but in folklore they sadly often end up having to marry the man who stole their skin, or are "released" but end up being so grateful that they stay and still marry the guy anyway. There are far too few stories IMHO where neither one happens.
