[Shams] The Phoenix Suns are frontrunners to sign free agent Bol Bol, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Rival teams are expecting Bol to sign in near future with the Suns, who have deepened their roster this offseason.

I'm a Nuggets fan who casually follows the Magic and I can promise you that Bol is not the guy you want.

I mean, I guess if you have no draft picks left he's kinda like a late second round flyer?

He's more of a draft and stash, if "stash" means G-League for a couple years followed by dominating in Puerto Rico.

Why do you say that? I didn’t watch him much early in the year and I know he got phased out in Orlando but his stats looked decent when he was given a chance early in the year. Seems like he’d get some run with the second team as a depth piece. I’m a Knicks fan so not really invested in him at all.

It's kindof a lot of stuff... His 3pt shot has completely disappeared, he's not wide enough to set quality screens, he's got a negative assist to turnover ratio, he's not great at picking his spots on offense, like for every one of those sick coast to coast layups there are 3 record scratching possessions that end in a turnover.

IMO his biggest problem is on the other end of the floor. His length gives him the ability to contest a ton of shots, but his lack of mobility and unique body makes him exploitable. He's often too frail to hang with even smaller big guys in the post and too slow to guard on the perimeter or in space.

I think if you built a lineup around his strengths you could overcome his weaknesses, but he's not a guy who's worth the effort right now. I'm always rooting for him but I think he's right on the fringe of being out of the league.

Super helpful and thorough write up. Thanks!
