Moin,

ich bin aktuell im Begriff mir mein NAS selbst zu basteln. Fest steht, dass ich vier Festplatten à 4 TB verbauen möchte.

Welche Festplatten verwendet ihr? Worauf muss ich beim Kauf achten? Bin über Tipps und Erfahrungswerte dankbar.

Ein Freund hatte extrem schlechte Erfahrungen mit dem Kundenservice von WD und riet mir von deren Produkten ab: Kann das jemand bestätigen oder entkräftigen?

Generell gilt: Für NAS (im RAID) keine SMR-Platten! https://www.computerbase.de/2020-04/wd-red-festplatten-smr-ohne-kennzeichnung/ Wenn WD Reds, dann also WD Red Pros.

Heute lernte ich... Schön, dass ich bei meiner NAS immer auf WD Red vertraut habe in dem Glauben, dass das natürlich die beste Wahl sei.

Scheinbar sind aber nur 2-6TB WD Red Platten mit SMR:

All our WD Red drives are designed meet or exceed the performance requirements and specifications for common small business/home NAS workloads. We work closely with major NAS providers to ensure WD Red HDDs (and SSDs) at all capacities have broad compatibility with host systems. Currently, Western Digital’s WD Red 2TB-6TB drives are device-managed SMR (DMSMR). WD Red 8TB-14TB are CMR-based.
