Nintendo hasn't been flawless, but they're the prime example that just selling a really good product is enough to make it. They have live services and mobile games, but I've spoken to people. Pokemon Legends Arceus and Zelda have sold a metric fuck ton of switches. Even Mario Odyssey is a great example of this. Sony also seems to kind of understand this, with really great single player games. Games as a service seems to be the entire Xbox brand right now with gamepass
If only their legal department could be as much of a shining example.
For sure, their hatred for fan games pisses me off. Nintendo is far from perfect. I was so sad when AM2R got shut down, it was a nearly perfect project. They've also gone after certain popular Pokemon ROM hacks like Flora Skies. Most of it has been undeniably shitty.
However I will defend some of their copyright bs. I think it's reasonable to ban posting footage of certain things in the game as long as it's made clear. Nintendo games are all about discovery, the shock awe. They were bitches about Super Mario Odyssey ending footage when the game first released and I'm glad they did.
They don't hate them at all! They just steal their ideas
