Nintendo will be like "I wish someone had told us that a 3d multiplayer open world Pokemon game would be something fans would want!"
I was thinking just last month that it would be nice if there was some Pokémon game that let you farm and do everyday stuff with them. Then comes Palworld and it's not just Pokémon with guns but you can manage a whole base of creatures doing stuff for you.
As a pokemon fan, I'm surprised I didn't hear about Palworld until literally yesterday.
Fans: "We've been telling you this for two decades now!"
Alternatively
Nintendo: "Send the C&Ds. Sic the lawyers on them! We'll show these guys not to do Pokemon better than us!"
Does game freak or whoever owns Pokemon have any claim on this? The game doesn't infringe from what I have seen.
Dragon Quest 5 had a similar mechanic in 92, so GaneFreak/Creatures inc/Nintendo will never be able to have a copyright over the concept.
I doubt it. They don't own the concept of monster collection and fighting and such, and I'd say the designs are distinct enough. Not to mention all the other mechanics the game features.
