MODERATORS
You can set games to run on older versions of proton that worked. These are all open source and in no threat of being unattainable again (unlike over 30% of Nintendos library that thet let die)
It’s not always guarantee, older versions means worse than newer and Proton will eventually hit a point of failure with new games.
