He means in Japan.
In Japan the age of consent for quite a long time was 13 and recently changed to 16
That was the national law, meanwhile each prefecture had its own higher age already.
Either way the point stands. Anime and manga are known for sexualizing teenagers and kids
Which is obviously fucked up.
The point isn't if it was "legal", but instead "ethical".
Even if a country allows you to be with a 13yo, it is fucked up.
He essentially said: "it's a fine show, no problems, because the relationship was legal! " When referring to a 14yo
To me it seemed more like he was explaining why teens and kids are so sexualized in anime in general.
Because it was the age of consent and enough Japanese anime/manga creators are okay with that enough to put it in pretty much everything
Which is fucking yikes! Who associates with that crap?
