About us

An open, user owned community for the general disscussion of the libertarian philosophy.

Most people live their own lives by that code of ethics. Libertarians believe that that code should be applied consistently, even to the actions of governments, which should be restricted to protecting people from violations of their rights. Governments should not use their powers to censor speech, conscript the young, prohibit voluntary exchanges, steal or “redistribute” property, or interfere in the lives of individuals who are otherwise minding their own business.

All I got from this article is that the person who wrote it thinks people who work in fast food don't deserve to earn a living wage.

Personally I'd rather pay 50 cents more for my Big Mac and know that the person who made it can pay their bills and keep a roof over their head

Too bad that you'll pay $3 extra for your burger now and no one's getting better pay.

You don’t sound very libertarian to me.

Sorry, I didn't realize libertarians didn't believe in honest pay for honest work.

Libertarians believe that the compensation you earn is what the market dictates given productivity and other economic conditions. Terms like “honest pay” and “living wage” are meaningless and have no place in a serious conversation about economics.

I agree. Just like the saying "work deserves compensation" is pure nonsense. I can do meaningless or even contra productive work nobody wants to pay for, why should I expect getting paid for it? Hell, why should I expect getting compensated for a discovery if I don't use it to create a product that I can sell on the market? What is the product there? The mere idea of something?
