Sign holders: emaciated, tattered clothing, foot wraps/bindings/bandages, visible wounds and scars, body language signifies either fear or aggression
Sign occupiers: well fed, clean clothes in good repair, no visible wounds or scars, body language signifies openness.
The visual language of enmity portrayed in opposition to the visual language of belonging.

Neither. Red and green pop together like blue and orange do and that’s why the sign holders are dressed as they are.
