I wonder how much of that gap was Hulkenberg stopping Perez and Sainz...

True. But also, the fact that Perez was stopped by a Haas...

That would have extended the gap for sure, but the biggest part of the gap was built up after Perez overtook Hulk.

Max pulled a massive lead in Suzuka last year as well - he's generally excellent in wet conditions. It's the attribute that had RB fighting over his signature at 16 y/o.
