You can't convince me this guy has not been the most damaging PM we have ever had. People were blinded by his father's name and his good looks. We've all heard his last name all our lives, so people voted for him without looking at what he actually stood for, which was not the good of Canadians.
Things have gotten bad with this guy leading the country, focusing on identity politics and creating division.
LMFAO, as opposed to the CPCs focus, which has been...identity politics and creating division?
At least the Liberals had an actual costed platform that benefitted Canadians, even if they over-promised and under-delivered.
What's the CPCs platform again? "Fuck you poors, minorities, and women; I got mine."?
"Nobody exists but the Liberals and the CPC."
Lmao I can always count on conservatives to be the biggest drama queens. “Most damaging PM we have ever had”.
If this is the worst you’ve ever had I envy your spoiled little life.
Who would you have rather seen in his position?
Good question. Someone more like the previous liberal PM Chrétien or the old PC leader PM Harper. Both of them seemed to genuinely want to do a good job, even if I didnt agree with everything they stood for, they were both men to be respected.
So nobody that was in the last election?
Who amongst the leaders in the last election would have been more suitable?
Who amongst the current leaders would be better?
And finally if you aren't seeing the leadership you want what do you want out of a prime minister? And please don't point to historical examples.
I'lk take NDP or Conservatives over him, doesn't matter which.
Harper was a lot worse but you might be too young to remember
Most damaging PM since Harper.
I voted for him because I actually agreed with his platform. I thought it would be in the best interest of Canadians - and then he got elected. Did some things that he promised, sure, and he handled steering us through Covid better than a lot of countries out there. But I couldn’t in good conscience re-elect him. Identity politics make a mockery of our political system, but every politician is doing it these days. Our economy is in the shitter, housing too because our economy relies on housing, and while he’s doing something about it it’s not enough.
"Identity Politics" is a far-right dogwhistle.
What Trudeau has been pushing has been protection for all marginalized groups - most controversially (!), Indigenous and Trans people.
You could argue that he's spent too much time on that and not enough on other issues, and maybe that's true. BUT, I'd argue that he's pushed those issues so much because of the pushback they get. Here in Alberta, we have uneducated psychopaths (David Parker and Take Back Alberta) controlling the government from behind the scenes, and driving towards banning LGBTQ+ expression, banning gender-affirming healthcare, banning gay marriage, and banning abortion.
Really.
So when you have groups like this with a significant voice, then yes - politicians need to make it a major issue, for the protection of all citizens.
The economy is still bouncing from COVID and its long-term fallout; and interest rates around the world are making things tough everywhere. Housing in Canada is definitely a problem, and one the Liberals haven't addressed well at all. (Personally, I don't think most western governments are at all prepared for the consequences of 21st-century capitalism applied to basic needs, but that's a long rant.)
But if we were to look at the other party most likely to form a government, you have a loudly bigoted populist who will clearly do FAR less about housing or food prices, because obsessive non-interference in the market has become a conservative mantra.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not a big Trudeau fan, and it is definitely past time for him to GTFO; but as long as the CPC is a party of dangerous raging hatemongers, I'll do whatever I can to keep them out - even if it means voting for Trudeau.
