Hard to tell from the picture, but I'd expect these to be injection molded and the vinyl to be bonded to the foam. You're right though, vinyl shows wear worse than cloth.
Oh definitely, they wouldn’t have shaped the foam as it would give no support. Having had to actively distress maquette for a film set, it was hell! It’s durable to a ridiculous degree!
