Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Wh... What. You know, generally I try not to base my reaction of an article on just the title because generally they're designed to be click/rage bait.

But no, I regret even reading the article, it just got worse and worse as it went on! I cannot believe this author just tried to convince me that SQL is a fad, but blockchain and cryptocurrency isn't?!

Simply put, because UNIX already allowed for arbitrary manipulation of relational data without the need for SQL.

Okay, such as...? Any examples of any large scale application that currently uses a form of SQL, to be replaced with such methods? No?

It’s true that SQL has been popular for almost 50 years. That’s very good for a fad!

No. That would prove that SQL is very much not a fad.

But it’s only a matter of time before SQL becomes a relic of the past. In its place, we’ll see the development of new methods and techniques for managing relational data.

Sure, get back to me when it does. Chances are it likely will, nothing is "forever" - however I'm sure this author would consider said replacement as a "fad" just as well.
